10 Years in Safety

The Southern African Gas Association (SAGA) would like to take the opportunity to thank all those who attended SAGA’s 10 year anniversary celebration. Held last week Friday, at the Barnyard Cresta, the event was attended by SAGA Members, Industry specialists and the SAGA team.

Roy Lubbe, Chairman of SAGA, opened the celebration with a reflection on the progress of SAGA and its growing role within the gas industry. While turning attention to the economic potential the gas industry holds, Roy used this opportunity to outline SAGA’s future plans and most importantly, SAGA’s intention to drive safety as a non-negotiable factor throughout Southern Africa.

Safety is non-negotiable – the next 10 years

SAGA intends on raising the bar on safety standards while pushing policy boundaries. With 10 years of experience in safety and training, SAGA aims on growing its influence to challenge players in the industry who do not adhere to safety standards.

SAGA is one of the fastest growing gas associations in Southern Africa. The increasing membership base allows SAGA to establish itself as a key role-player and safety guardian. In terms of the Pressure Equipment Regulations (PER), SAGA has been mandated by the Department of Labour as the Verifying Authority for NG and LP Gas industrial equipment in conformance with the SANS 329 and 347 specifications. This ensures SAGA with the mandate to oversee all industrial gas related equipment that is supplied within South Africa.

STAC – the next 10 years

In response to an outspoken need to create a transparent, non-biased, non-competitive, approachable body for Safety and Technical queries, SAGA created the Safety and Technical Advisory Council (STAC). Over the course of the next 10 years, STAC aims to position itself as a key advisory body that offers valued input in a growing industry.

In closing Roy thanked all who attended and those who have contributed to the success of SAGA. The rest of the evening offered Members and Industry specialists to network and enjoy the entertainment.
